 Motivation - Why Volunteer:

Ashley W-P, AmeriCorps STATE Volunteer

"I decided to volunteer with AmeriCorps because I felt like my life was being wasted on mundane tasks that I didn’t believe in. I wanted to make a difference, both in my life and the lives of others. I also needed time to figure out where I wanted to be, and what I wanted to aim for as I grow as a person, and the year of volunteering in Vermont has helped me to do that."

Ashley served with the Vermont Youth Development Corps (VYDC) based out of Montpelier, VT. She has since returned home to finish school with a renewed focus on her education.

Tell us about a Cultural Experience:

 Julia T, LiveLearning - Educator's Expedition June 2008

".....cooking together with the local women’s group. It gave me an opportunity to do something I love and feel comfortable with, while having a chance to talk with the women and learn more about their lives......It gave me time to not only interact with the women, but also with their children. It was an ideal way to interact with local community members....."

Julia was a participant on LiveLearning's "Educators Expedition" to the Dominican Republic.  She continues to develop service-learning trips for Primary Source in order to educate the educator.
