Step Outside has begun refocusing our initiative. We have not diverged from our initial mission, but simply change our approach in an effort to reach more people, grow more quickly, and become sustainable. Take a look around and let us know what you think. Experience is knowledge, so go ahead, Step Outside.

SOI receives tax exempt status!

Today the Step Outside Initiative received our 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. Our next steps will be to apply for grants and begin creating our programs.

501(c)(3) Tax Exemption status pending.......

Step Outside has completed the necessary paperwork and filed with the U.S. government for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Thanks to all our family and friends that have generously donated to our cause to make this all possible. It is because of your donations that we are able to follow our dream. We'll keep you all informed and up to date as our pending application is processed with the IRS.

Successful trip to the Dominican Republic!

Pat and I recently returned from Rio Limpio, a small mountain villiage in the Dominican Republic on the border of Haiti. We were there on an "Educator Expedition" with Live Learning. The program is designed to teach the "best practices" that ensure successful service-learning programs, while at the same time giving you the chance to actively participate in projects. Global Youth Service Day - 25-27 April

Millions of young people from Cambodia to Peru, from Pakistan to Liberia, from Mexico to Mongolia, are implementing community service projects during the 20th Annual Global Youth Service Day (GYSD).

Young volunteers will address important community needs through service and service-learning projects addressing climate change, literacy, poverty, human rights and many other issues. Read Article
